Improvising with jazz star Michael Schiefel

22/05/2015

Renowned German jazz star Michael Schiefel will give two free concerts on the evenings of May 21st and 22nd at the Goethe Institute Hanoi (56-58 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Hanoi) as part of the European Days in Vietnam event.

Michael Schiefel is a phenomenon both in German jazz and on the performance stage. As a singer, he experiments with his bright, distinctive yet sometimes husky voice, combining looping devices to create the effect of a solo performance against a choir backdrop.

On the evening of May 21st, he will perform songs from his album "My Home Is My Tent." His unique songs reveal him as a visionary thinker, someone who doesn't follow conventional structures but often forges his own path. This creates the impressive sonic landscape of this artist.

In particular, on the evening of May 22nd, he will have an impromptu performance with members of JumpForJazz – a project supporting talented young musicians in Hanoi. The founder of the institute, Nguyen Bao Long, is also a prominent figure in the Vietnamese jazz scene, aiming to create opportunities for young musicians to gain more recognition and perform alongside other artists. The joint performance with Michael Schiefel on May 22nd, rehearsed for two consecutive days, will undoubtedly be a very exciting experience. Michael Schiefel not only possesses a unique voice capable of reaching soprano high notes, but his stage performance style is also very distinctive.

Michael Schiefel's solo concert at 8 PM on May 21, 2015, and an impromptu concert with Michael Schiefel & JumpForJazz at 8 PM on May 22, 2015, at the Goethe Institute Hanoi. Free admission.
