From July 1st, the Ministry of Public Security began issuing new-style ordinary passports to citizens. According to a reporter from Travellive magazine, this afternoon, many Hanoi residents lined up in long queues at the Vietnam Immigration Department, 44 Tran Phu Street, in the 33°C heat.
Many people stood in line waiting to get new passports.
During peak travel season, many people are eager to get a new passport when their old one has expired or is about to expire.
A ride-hailing motorbike driver at the location shared: "Many people had lined up here since early morning. But it was too crowded, so they just went home and did it the next day."
On May 31st, the Immigration Department temporarily suspended the issuance of old-style ordinary passports, only issuing them when necessary and urgent for citizens due to the upcoming implementation of the new format. From July 1st, 2022, citizens applying for ordinary passports will receive and use passports in the new format.
Citizens who were issued old-style passports before July 1, 2022, will continue to use them until their expiration date. Old-style passports issued after July 1, 2022, will be invalid.
Current tourism services such as passport offices, airports, and accommodations are overloaded due to the increased demand for leisure and business trips.
Although work doesn't start until 1:30 PM, people have already been lining up since early morning.
Long lines formed on both sides of the door, waiting for their turn.
There were also people who arrived early to wait in the results area.
At exactly 1:30 PM, people came in to submit their applications for new passports.
