With the cooperation of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the relevant local authorities of Vietnam, Kong: Skull Island is the first Hollywood film to be licensed to shoot scenes in Vietnam.

As soon as this information was officially announced, the film project received a great deal of media attention in Vietnam. On the morning of March 16th, through the official distributor in the Vietnamese market, the producers of Kong: Skull Island sent a letter to the media. The film crew and producers were very surprised and grateful for the enthusiastic support of the Vietnamese press and media in their first official filming of a Hollywood movie set in Vietnam.

The producers emphasized that Kong: Skull Island is not a sequel or remake of previous King Kong films. It is an entirely original film with a new setting within the mythological story of Kong. Therefore, using the title King Kong 2 when referring to Kong: Skull Island is inaccurate. This information was previously mentioned by the film crew at a press conference on February 21st upon their arrival in Vietnam.

Ninh Binh is one of the filming locations for the movie.

Currently, the film crew's travel, filming schedule, locations, and preparation and filming activities are being significantly affected by the continuous publication of these articles by several newspapers. The film crew's activities are subject to confidentiality agreements with Vietnamese partners, therefore the published information may not accurately reflect what the crew is actually doing. Furthermore, this impacts the privacy and productivity of the crew, especially given the need for precise production timelines. The producer will officially provide important press information through the distributor at the appropriate time.

On-set footage is only a part of the entire film production process. The producers then need to carefully select each frame and perform post-production. Therefore, only when the film is completed and screened on the big screen will the full effects be ready to provide audiences with the best cinematic experience. Unofficial images can affect the viewing experience to some extent; therefore, the film crew also wishes to limit the information released to the mass media to ensure confidentiality and maintain the element of surprise upon release.

The willingness of Vietnamese media outlets to cooperate contributed to the success of the Kong: Skull Island film crew, and furthermore, helped to create an image of Vietnam as an ideal destination for future film projects.

Currently, the film crew has completed filming in Quang Binh and Ninh Binh provinces and has moved on to Quang Ninh province. The final scenes in Vietnam will be filmed in Cat Ba (Hai Phong). It is expected that Kong: Skull Island will complete its final scenes in Vietnam by March 19th at the latest. Kong: Skull Island is scheduled to be released in theaters in March 2017.
