The Japanese government plans to welcome small groups of Asian tourists from Vietnam, China...

The tourism industry in the land of the rising sun is planning to welcome the first foreign tourists back in March 2021, when the weather starts to get warmer. The tourists targeted in this plan are from Vietnam, Taiwan and mainland China. These are countries and territories in Asia that have controlled Covid-19 relatively well.

In addition to submitting a negative Covid-19 test certificate, visitors must submit a detailed itinerary and travel by private bus for the entire duration of the tour. Tourist groups must maintain distance from each other and avoid crowds at popular tourist spots in the country; use a tracking app at all times. In addition, you must provide information and update your health status daily.

The Japanese government is planning to open a public gathering facility in March with full facilities ready until the Summer Olympics open in July. This place will be a monitoring point for the location and health of international tourists.

However, the final decision on plans to welcome international visitors must wait until Japanese health authorities have a brighter picture of the domestic epidemic situation, as well as the availability and effectiveness of Covid-19 vaccines.

Currently, international visitors are only allowed to enter the country if they self-isolate for 14 days, which has reduced the number of tourists. According to the Japan National Tourism Organization, the number of international visitors in October fell 99% compared to the same period last year, marking the 13th consecutive month of decline.
