Designer Phuong My brings Japanese inspiration to a satisfying end to VIFW 2016

07/11/2016

With the responsibility of closing the entire VIFW 2016 fashion week, the collection “Pristine - Pure” by designer Phuong My brought the warm sunshine from the land of the rising sun, Japan, to Hanoi, creating a space of perfect harmony between music, fashion and inspiration from nature, with the warmth spreading from the dawn in the moment the sunlight awakens all things.

At the opening moment of the show, a circular red curtain simulating the red sun was pulled up high, recreating the moment of sunrise in Japan. A female dancer suddenly appeared and performed lively, joyful dances that captivated the audience in the auditorium. The dances from the female dancer immediately brought the audience into the magical and sparkling world of Japan - one of the places that welcomes the first sunrise. Designer Phuong My's collection is divided into 3 different parts with different sources of inspiration.

Dyeing the stage with the red and white colors of the Japanese flag, designer Phuong My introduced the collection "Pristine - Pure" through the feelings of the pristine moments of nature, as well as representing the metaphorical image of the elegant, pure beauty inside every woman.

To bring the most complete feeling to the collection “Pristine - Pure”, the wooden clogs purchased from Japan, the paper umbrellas… are all imported directly from abroad and hand-painted. Especially, following each catwalk of the models are the pleasant jingling bells, carefully hidden under each clog.

All the decorative details are blurred on the outfit like a flashback of memories filled with the desire to find the purest beauty. Depicting the changes of space and time, designer Phuong My uses red and orange colors symbolizing the warmth of the sun combined with the cold gray tones of the night dew, or the green tones of plants. The dark blue color blends with the blue of the sky or the ivory white color blends with gray tones showing the change of the landscape, implicitly describing the different personality levels of women, sometimes strong, sometimes weak.

The upper and lower body structure is cleverly handled in the opposite proportion of hugging and puffing, contributing to the ideal hourglass body shape of women. In addition, embellishing the outfit are pleating, beveled or ruffled techniques to create vivid accents. The collar detail - the prominent golden point on the outfit - is streamlined by designer Phuong My throughout this collection with three options of round neck, strapless, and boat neck.

Always a pioneer in applying the most advanced weaving techniques, designer Phuong My has introduced five fabrics suitable for each design feature of the outfit throughout the collection “Pristine - Pure”. Delicate mesh fabric for evening gowns, silk fabric with hidden cherry blossom pattern, felt fabric with embossed water pattern, silk and felt blend fabric creating the hidden and raised effect of leaf pattern. All materials are woven at the factory before designing and cutting. This process ensures the material’s volume and folds without too many dips or folds to perfectly maintain the hourglass shape of the designs.

At the end of the show, supermodel Thu Hang stepped out in a dress made from 150m of mesh fabric with many sparkling Swarovski beads, just as the sunrise symbol appeared behind her, filled with emotions of a beautiful dawn, bringing the breath of a new day to all things.
