The musical wizard behind the Minions' melodies.

20/07/2015

The key to the Minions' success lies not only in the humorous designs of these adorable single-celled creatures but also in their unique music. Just one voice from one of the Minions is enough to instantly bring the movie to the audience's mind, evoking feelings of relaxation and joy.

Freedom of imagination is considered the key to unlocking this colorful world of sound. Composer Heitor Pereira shared that what he found most comfortable working with the Illumination team at Universal was the freedom to create the sound for MINIONS. “I looked for music that could bring color to these little creatures,” he revealed.

Heitor Perera has been considered an important part of the creative team since the Despicable Me films. Kyle Balda – one of the two directors of the film – said that Heitor Perera's music is "as eccentric as the minions themselves."

The director also showered praise on the composer and his collaborators, remarking, "In the world, probably only five people could do this." During the sound production, Heitor Perera revealed that everyone tried to sing in the style of the minions. All the backing vocals were quirky, minion-style words like "tomato" and "banana" instead of Latin.

"If I sit down and picture myself holding my wife and children's hands, happily going to see the movie, I think that's exactly the feeling I need. It's wonderful. It's wonderful," Heitor Perera emphasized when talking about the melodies he created for the film.

CJ CGV Vietnam would like to share with you some insights from the production team and the process of creating the melodies for Minions:
