Prague holds farewell party for Covid-19

03/07/2020

On June 30, people in the capital Prague sat shoulder to shoulder around a 500-meter-long table on the medieval Charles Bridge, having dinner together to celebrate the upcoming easing of the Covid-19 lockdown.

“The bridge is a good metaphor for strangers coming together,” said Ondrej Kobza, the event’s organizer, explaining that such a mass party could only take place in Prague without tourists. “The event is a celebration, to show that we are not afraid, we will go out and we are no longer stuck at home,” added Kobza. Dinner attendees brought food and drinks and shared them.

Charles Bridge was started in 1357 under the patronage of Emperor Karl IV and completed in the early 15th century, is a bridge of important historical significance in Prague.
