28/02/2024

March comes with the scent of spring and the joy of welcoming International Women's Day on March 8. This is a special occasion to honor Vietnamese women - the brilliant flowers that add color to life.

What day is March 8?

The history of March 8th originated from the struggle movement of female textile workers in the United States in the late 19th century. The exploitation of labor, poor working conditions and low wages made them angry and determined to stand up and fight. On March 8th, 1857, in New York City, thousands of female workers organized a parade, demanding higher wages, shorter working hours and improved working conditions. The movement spread to many other cities and became a strong voice for women's rights.

In 1910, at the 2nd International Congress of Socialist Women held in Copenhagen, Denmark, Clara Zetkin, a German social and political activist, proposed to take March 8 every year as International Women's Day to commemorate the struggle of American female workers and promote gender equality worldwide.

Since then, March 8 has become an important holiday celebrated in more than 100 countries around the world. This is an occasion to honor the contributions of women in all areas of life, and at the same time, it is a call to join hands to eliminate gender inequality and promote equality for women globally.
