Reliving the history of the resistance war through technology.

25/04/2025

As the end of April approaches, social media begins to be filled with emotional posts, images, and videos about April 30th – the day of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country. This vibrant atmosphere spreads across personal pages and shared stories, making even young people living in the modern world feel excited.

To commemorate the historic April 30th, a significant milestone for the nation, social media is abuzz with heartfelt emotions, recalling the sacrifices made for today's peace. Amidst this sentiment, the interactive exhibition commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam, organized by Nhan Dan Newspaper, offers a vibrant, creative, inspiring, and unique space connecting history through technology. The exhibition will take place from April 23rd to May 4th, 2025, at the Nhan Dan Newspaper premises, 71 Hang Trong Street, Hanoi.

This is not a purely formal exhibition. Not just lengthy billboards, not just black-and-white photos with captions. This is where history steps out of books, touching emotions, awakening national memories in the most modern way through 3D models, sound and light design, reconstructed documents, interactive clips, QR codes for searching, and a visually rich, storytelling space.

"This is the first time I've approached history in this way, not through numbers or tests, but through images, sounds, and emotions. It feels like I'm living in that moment, and I understand better why April 30th is so sacred," shared Nhung, a student at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.

The exhibition attracted a large number of people.

When history is no longer dry and boring

The exhibition is designed as a continuous flow throughout the journey from the resistance war against the US to April 30, 1975, and continuing with the period of national reconstruction and reintegration. Each period is presented in different forms, from rare archival images and witness interviews to 3D models recreating the Ho Chi Minh Campaign or historical moments within the Independence Palace.

Interactivity is a standout feature. At each exhibition area, visitors can use their phones to scan QR codes, watch extended videos, read detailed documents, or listen to engaging narrations. Instead of distracting viewers, technology becomes a bridge, allowing history to touch their hearts in a natural and intimate way. Gone is the feeling of "dry and difficult to remember" experienced in classroom history; instead, there is curiosity, emotion, and a sense of discovery.

Young people are excited about this exhibition.

The exhibition booth about the Route 9 - Southern Laos campaign attracted a large number of visitors. The 3D model, combined with lighting and sound effects, brought the battle to life in a modern setting. Many people lingered, silently admiring each detail recreated with high realism. In particular, the documentary films shown in the central area, with their vivid images and soothing sounds, moved many viewers to tears. In that space, history came alive, no longer just distant words, but a tangible entity flowing in the blood of each person.

Technology is the bridge between the past and the present.

The exhibition clearly demonstrated one thing: when technology is used correctly, history not only doesn't fade, but becomes more vibrant than ever. Special supplements published by Nhan Dan Newspaper were digitized into interactive electronic publications, integrating links to digitized battle maps, audio, video, and supplementary image materials.

For young people already familiar with smartphones and social media platforms, this innovation opens up a whole new avenue of access. History is no longer just knowledge to memorize for exams, but becomes a personalized experience where each person can choose their favorite content, explore at their own pace, and even share it with the community.

Images of students engrossed in taking notes, livestreaming and sharing every moment, or simply recording stories to document their experiences were everywhere in the exhibition space. These seemingly "ordinary" actions are actually clear manifestations of history being brought back to life and retold in the language of today's generation.

History is not just for remembering, but for moving forward.

The exhibition space not only recreates historical events but also ignites a spirit of gratitude, pride, and a readiness to shoulder historical responsibility. Film footage documenting the journey across the Truong Son Mountains, stories of soldiers who went and never returned, and images of crowds pouring into the streets on April 30th… are not only valuable historical documents but also profound messages from our ancestors.

Today's young generation is learning, creating, and integrating into a global environment. In this fast-paced world, preserving historical memory is even more crucial. The exhibition aims not only to "recall" the past but also to evoke pride that today's peace is the culmination of the sacrifices of countless generations before. And it is from this awareness that today's generation can continue to write history in their own way through technology, kindness, dedication, and aspiration for greater achievements.

Young people are contributing to beautifying the country not just through slogans, but through concrete actions – from developing community projects and green startups to creating technological products for society. This way of life, quiet yet steadfast, is clear evidence that history is not forgotten but is present in every small effort each day.

This exhibition, with its combination of creativity, technology, and genuine affection for young people, is a commendable beginning. When young people are exposed to history through experience rather than coercion, through emotion rather than mere statistics, history will no longer be a burden, but a driving force in life, a lasting source of inspiration.

History, when brought back to life through new storytelling—through images, sounds, technology, and emotions—not only doesn't fade with time, but is also more deeply ingrained in the hearts of the new generation. Only when young people understand and love history will history truly endure. And only when history is relived authentically and modernly will the Vietnamese spirit continue to be written with new pages full of pride, creativity, and hope.
