The tourist city of Da Nang hopes to make Techcombank Ironman 70.3 Vietnam one of the best sporting events in Asia for many years to come. This offers qualified athletes the chance to win 50 spots at the Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship in the Philippines in August 2018, and 30 spots at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in South Africa in September 2018.

The prestigious Techcombank Ironman 70.3 Vietnam 2018 sporting event was held on Sunday, May 13, 2018. Returning to Da Nang for the fourth time, the event marked a new milestone as Techcombank became a strategic partner, accompanying the race for many years to come. The fourth season of Techcombank Ironman 70.3 Vietnam 2018 carried the message “Be Greater Together – Striving for Excellence Together Every Day”.

The event is expected to attract a record number of participants, with over 1,600 athletes from 56 countries, including 620 Vietnamese athletes. This represents a more than tenfold increase in the number of Vietnamese athletes compared to the inaugural event in 2015, demonstrating the growing appeal of the competition to Vietnamese people who enjoy high-performance sports that challenge endurance and personal willpower. To date, the relay events have sold out, with 160 teams competing in swimming, cycling, and running.

Techcombank Ironman 70.3 Vietnam is a continuous triathlon race, starting with a 1.9km swim at Hyatt Regency Beach, followed by a 90km cycling race along the Da Nang coastline, and ending with a 21km run. The race offers athletes the opportunity to compete and experience the stunning scenery of Da Nang. It's also one of the rare races where both professional and amateur athletes can compete and push their limits to reach the finish line.

Despite having over 40 years of development worldwide, Ironman remains a relatively young and promising sporting event in Asia, especially in Vietnam. In Da Nang, from its first single-day competition in 2015, the Techcombank Ironman 70.3 Vietnam 2018 has expanded into a multi-day sporting festival with numerous competition categories and a variety of activities for the whole family to participate in.

The professional category promises to be incredibly exciting this year with strong competitors in both the men's and women's divisions. In the men's division, the contest between the reigning champion, Tim Van Berkel, who is eager to successfully defend his title, and the 2016 Ironman 70.3 World Champion, Tim Reed, promises to be extremely captivating and dramatic. The race will also feature several other notable male athletes such as Sam Betten, Mike Phillips, and Brad Williams. In the women's division, there will be the reigning champion Anna Eberhardt and Caroline Steffen – a two-time Ironman 70.3 Vietnam champion. Other top female athletes participating include Radka Vodickova, the recent Ironman 70.3 Davao champion, and Dimity Lee Duke and Leanne Szeto, who finished second and third respectively in 2017.

Individual athletes will have the opportunity to qualify for the Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship in Cebu, Philippines on August 5th and the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa on September 1st and 2nd, with 50 and 30 spots available respectively, based on the top rankings in each age group.
