Malaysia is one of Thailand's major and high-growth tourism markets. Malaysian tourists often choose Thailand as an attractive travel destination due to its culture, history, cuisine, and more. Therefore, the Thai tourism industry is striving to expand air routes to make it easier for tourists from Malaysia to travel to Thailand.
Reportedly, Malaysia Airlines' first flight, MH772, took off from Kuala Lumpur on August 15th, marking the beginning of a new direct route with a frequency of 5 flights per week, using an Airbus A330neo aircraft with a capacity of 297 passengers.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said the new route will directly link two major cities in Southeast Asia, significantly enhancing travel convenience for Malaysian tourists. The addition of these direct flights is part of Thailand's strategy to expand its quality tourism market by partnering with airline networks, thereby positioning Thailand as a tourism hub in Southeast Asia.

It's noted that 80% of Malaysian tourists visiting Thailand are independent travelers, with 69% returning multiple times. Popular activities attracting Malaysian visitors include exploring Thai cuisine, enjoying relaxing treatments, discovering historical sites, and relaxing on the beaches.

Thailand aims to welcome approximately 5 million Malaysian tourists in 2024.
The new route is expected to attract Malaysian tourists seeking to explore something different in Northern Thailand than the popular destinations they've visited in the South. With its rich heritage, culture, history, natural beauty, and vibrant atmosphere, Chiang Mai promises to offer visitors unique and distinctive experiences.
