The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has proposed measures to attract as many tourists as possible, as the country's economy relies heavily on tourism. The cabinet recently approved a series of new visa relaxation programs. The number of countries eligible for visa-free entry will increase from 57 to 93. 36 new destinations include Albania, Cambodia, India, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Laos, Mexico, Panama, Romania, and Sri Lanka. Tourism is a major driver of Thailand's economy – the second-largest in Southeast Asia – and a significant source of employment.

Tourists aged 50 and over who wish to obtain a long-term visa previously needed to purchase health insurance with a maximum coverage of 3 million baht (approximately 2.1 billion VND). Under the new resolution, however, they only need to purchase insurance worth 400,000-440,000 baht (approximately 300 million VND) for inpatient treatment and 40,000 baht for outpatient treatment (28 million VND). This policy will be in effect from September to December of this year.

The spokesperson also said the cabinet had approved expanding e-visa services at Thai consulates and embassies from 47 to 94 locations, effective from September.

This new visa-free policy is expected to help Thailand attract more international tourists, contributing to boosting the country's economy. In addition to visa exemption, Thailand also implements several other policies to attract tourists, including: visa-on-arrival for 31 countries, and five-year visas for international students after graduation.

Thailand recorded 14.3 million tourists from January to May 26th this year and is aiming to welcome 40 million foreign visitors for the whole year, generating revenue of 3.5 trillion baht (US$95.73 billion).

With these open policies, Thailand is aiming to become a leading tourism hub in the region.
