The Vietnam Tour Guide Association was established under Decision No. 66/QD-HHDL dated October 10, 2017 of the President of the Vietnam Tourism Association. The Vietnam Tour Guide Association is a professional social organization of Vietnamese citizens working in the field of tour guiding; representing the legitimate rights and interests of its members who are Vietnamese tour guides. The Association has its headquarters in Hanoi and two representative offices in Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City.

Mr. Vu The Binh - Permanent Vice President of Vietnam Tourism Association, President of Vietnam Travel Association, said that tour guides are the vanguard of the tourism industry, playing a very important role in the success of a tour and creating an impression on tourists, contributing to building a good image for Vietnam tourism. However, currently there is no organization managing the tour guide team, most of the 19,000 tour guides nationwide work freelance without belonging to any unit. This has caused many consequences and chaos in the tour guide team, the issue of professional ethics and professional qualifications of tour guides has not met the requirements to be able to compete with countries in the region.
After working with the Tourism Associations of provinces and cities, the Vietnam Tourism Association decided to establish a provisional Executive Committee of the Vietnam Tourism Guide Association consisting of 41 members, who are representatives of regions, representatives of the tour guide departments of companies, Tourism Associations of provinces and cities, and representatives of Tour Guide Clubs operating legally in organizations of the Vietnam Tourism Association.
To soon deploy activities, also on November 3 in Hanoi, the Vietnam Tourism Association organized the first meeting of the provisional Executive Committee of the Vietnam Tour Guide Association. At this meeting, the Vietnam Tourism Association announced decisions, approved the Regulations and Operation Plan, assigned members of the provisional Executive Committee of the Vietnam Tour Guide Association; discussed coordination in management and support of tour guiding activities between the General Department of Tourism, Departments of Tourism, Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Tourism Association, local Tourism Associations and the Vietnam Tour Guide Association. The provisional Executive Committee will immediately deploy necessary tasks and complete necessary documents to organize the first Congress of the Vietnam Tour Guide Association in the first 6 months of 2018.
