Taiwan ranks fourth among the top ten source markets for tourists visiting Ho Chi Minh City, after South Korea, Japan, and the United States, and is considered one of the city's key tourist markets. In 2015, the number of Taiwanese tourists visiting Ho Chi Minh City reached nearly 287,779, a 14% increase compared to 2014. In the first nine months of 2016, this number reached 256,150, a 16.9% increase compared to the same period in 2015.

In Taipei, from November 4th to 7th, 2016, the delegation will attend the Taipei International Travel Fair.(ITF)with a booth totaling 99 m²2 Organized jointly by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism and Vietnam Airlines, with the participation of leading Vietnamese travel businesses, this is an annual international tourism fair in Taiwan and is considered one of the largest in Northeast Asia. In addition, Ho Chi Minh City also organized many cultural activities at the fair, such as performances of Vietnamese traditional musical instruments, traditional folk art (tò he), and a program promoting tourism in Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City. The program attracted representatives from the Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei, travel businesses, and media outlets in Taipei.

In Kaohsiung City, on November 8th, 2016, a tourism promotion program between Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City will be held, with the participation of representatives from the Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei, leaders of the Kaohsiung City tourism agency, Vietnam Airlines, and 70 Vietnamese and Taiwanese travel businesses in Kaohsiung City. The program is a valuable opportunity for tourism agencies from Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City, and Taiwan to introduce and promote their destinations, discuss the current state of tourism in both countries, outline future directions for bilateral tourism development, and serve as an effective bridge for businesses from both sides to strengthen cooperation and sign contracts.The highlight of the event was the signing ceremony of two Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs): one between the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Promotion Center and the Taiwan Events Association, and another between the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association and the Kaohsiung Tourism Association, Taiwan..
The trip made a strong impression on Taiwanese tourism agencies and travel businesses, showcasing Vietnam – specifically Ho Chi Minh City – as a friendly tourist destination. This contributed to strengthening the friendship between Taiwan and Vietnam in general, and Ho Chi Minh City in particular, through tourism cooperation.
