Boracay Island Paradise May Be Temporarily Closed

27/03/2018

Since emerging as a tourist phenomenon with its cool, fresh air, turquoise beaches and fine white sand, the number of tourists visiting Boracay has increased rapidly. The serious pollution situation has forced some Philippine government agencies to propose the temporary closure of the island to protect the environment.

Earlier this year, President Duterte ordered the temporary closure of Boracay due to its poor environmental conditions. He recommended that the island be closed to tourists for six months to allow the environment to recover.

The relevant Ministries and Departments are currently in the process of meeting and discussing the temporary closure time. The closure is expected to be on April 26, for a period of about 2 months to 1 year. During this time, the environment on Boracay Island will be restored, cleaned and upgraded so that the island can return to its true name of "island paradise".

According to Mr. Cimatu, Secretary of Environment, the reopening will depend entirely on the time it takes to clean up the island. However, the implementation of the plan is still difficult. Businesses in this area will suffer a significant loss if the island is closed even temporarily. The inter-agency council will meet with representatives of the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Labor to help those with minimum income who are at risk of losing their jobs. At the same time, the national airline Philippine Airlines also said that it is ready to support customers free of charge in rebooking, canceling tickets, and changing schedules when the decision to close is implemented.

Let's review some pictures of the island paradise of Boracay before it fell into the current serious environmental pollution situation.
