27/10/2014

To celebrate the Vietnamese translation of the book "Désir d'infini" (Aspiration for the Infinite) by astrophysicist Trinh Xuan Thuan of the French Institute in Ho Chi Minh City, Tre Publishing House and the Institute for Cultural Exchange with France (IDECAF) are presenting a discussion about this book on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at 6 PM at IDECAF.

Infinity is the broadest subject that imagination can encompass. It has fascinated people throughout the ages, whether artists, philosophers, or scientists. But does infinity truly manifest itself in physical reality, or is it merely a concept we have imagined, as Aristotle once thought?

With this dizzying topic, Trinh Xuan Thuan presented his reflections in his clear, pedagogical style, combining scientific and philosophical elements with the familiar poetic quality that has contributed to his resounding successes.Mysterious Melody,Chaos and harmony, and most recentlyThe universe and the lotus flower.

Trinh Xuan Thuan was born in Hanoi, Vietnam. He graduated from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and Princeton University in the United States, where he completed his doctoral dissertation in astrophysics. Since 1976, he has taught at the University of Virginia. In 2009, he received the Kalinga Prize from UNESCO, and in 2012, he received the Simone and Cino del Duca Foundation's international award for his scientific research works written in French.
