Top leaders and managers from over 40 airlines gathered at the Farnborough Airshow on July 12th to attend the Skytrax Awards Ceremony – the world's largest airline rating and ranking organization. Most notably, AirAsia was named "World's Best Low-Cost Airline" for the eighth consecutive year. This award is based on a survey of 19 million passengers from 104 countries. They evaluated airlines based on price, food quality, seat comfort, amenities, and the service attitude of the flight crew.

Consistently receiving awards from 2009 to 2016, AirAsia is the leading and largest low-cost airline in Asia with an extensive network covering over 100 destinations. Over its 15 years of operation, the airline has served more than 330 million passengers and grown its fleet from 2 to its current 170 aircraft.
AirAsia simultaneously signed an order for 100 Airbus A321neo aircraft. The contract was announced by AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes and Airbus President Fabrice Brégier at the Farnborough Airshow. The presence of the new aircraft will help Air Asia improve its transport efficiency and take advantage of more features.
At the awards ceremony, Skytrax also announced the 10 best airlines of 2016, including Emirates, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, ANA All Nippon Airways, Etihad Airways, Turkish Airlines, EVA Air, Qantas Airways, and Lufthansa Airlines. Emirates Airlines topped the list, having won this award three times.
Ranked second in the world is Qatar Airways, which was also voted "Best Business Class Airline," "Best Business Lounge Airline," and "Best Service Airline in the Middle East."
