The 2018 Ao Dai Festival was organized by the Department of Tourism and the Women's Union of Ho Chi Minh City in coordination with other departments, agencies, and localities, with the aim of elevating the value and unique characteristics of the Vietnamese Ao Dai costume to a new level.On that occasionThursdayOrganized with 11 image ambassadors from various fields, the festival offered numerous tourists and city residents a series of attractive and meaningful activities, contributing to honoring the beauty of the ao dai and helping to enhance knowledge and understanding of this traditional garment.
A mass exercise program featuring Ao Dai (Vietnamese traditional dress) took place on Nguyen Hue pedestrian street with the participation of 3000 people of all ages to convey the message "Inspiring love for Vietnamese Ao Dai".
The art program "Ao Dai - Applied Fashion Trends in 2018," featuring many renowned designers and tourism businesses, is also a noteworthy event aimed at bringing the Ao Dai closer to everyday life.
In particular, the Elegant Ao Dai Contest, despite being held for the first time,Thursdaybut it still attracted the participation and display of beauty from a large number of people and collective units.
In addition, there were other activities such as the Forum on the Beauty of Vietnamese Ao Dai, an inspirational talk show about Ao Dai for young people, a Vietnam-Japan cultural exchange "Ao Dai and Tsumami Fabric Flowers," and a seminar on "The History of Vietnamese Ao Dai." Furthermore, the organizers also donated over 6000 Ao Dai dresses to many female workers living and working in Ho Chi Minh City.
After nearly a month, the festival has attracted over 100,000 visitors. It has truly become a highly anticipated annual event. The festival is held in suburban areas and schools; it is extended to residential communities with numerous competitions and forums about the traditional Vietnamese ao dai dress.
Interestingly, with the forum on Ao Dai in Modern Life, organized by the City Women's Cultural Center in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Promotion Center, many opinions from the public and guests requested content for the 2019 City Ao Dai Festival. Ideas such as organizing an Ao Dai design competition for male high school students; organizing a festival of fabrics suitable for making Ao Dai corresponding to different professions… received the approval of many people and various sectors. This shows that the Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival not only creates value for the public to enjoy, but conversely, the public also wants to participate in creating an Ao Dai festival.
The 2018 Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival successfully fulfilled its mission of conveying the message "I love Vietnamese Ao Dai." Those who have been involved with the Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival over the years can see that its scale and appeal have steadily increased.
With the success of the Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival in 2018, we can be confident that the festival in the following years will be well-received, and that one day, not too far in the future, Ho Chi Minh City will truly become the "City of Ao Dai" in the eyes of international friends.
