The exhibition displays 43 works by 8 artists: Le The Anh, Duy Tung, Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Dang Hiep, Duy Hoa, Le Thuy, Dang Huu and Trinh Lien; the result of 2 years of working together in the project "Painting with Nature" (2012 - 2014).
Although most of the artists in the exhibition chose landscape as the main theme of the exhibition, some wanted to expand the story of rural life, including signs of human presence. Among them, Nguyen Duy Tung focused specifically on houses in the village, painting the house and garden of the farmer, simple, rustic but full of charm. Dang Huu with still life paintings "taken" from the living context of the farmer.
Painting by Trinh Ngoc Lien
With the village landscape, Trinh Ngoc Lien reflects his tireless experimentation with painting techniques - brush strokes and the use of primary and complementary colors. The latest paintings of the hometown artist, including views of pond banks, narrow winding roads and interspersed fields, small quiet corners of the village yard, moreover, reflect the landscape from a close distance and give the viewer a more intimate feeling as if they are part of the countryside.
While Trinh Ngoc Lien’s paintings are modest, evocative and impactful, Duy Hoa’s paintings are a reflection of different states and the diversity in the visual perception of nature. Viewers can appreciate the hazy colors and unclear shapes, evoking the artist’s sense of uncertainty.
Le Thuy, another member of the group, takes trees, wild plants and wildflowers as the central subject. She focuses on the quiet corners of the garden, seeing their ordinary beauty and using strong and cheerful colors and light intensity to highlight the diversity and splendor of the vegetation. Le Thuy's aim is to make her works appear ancient first, expressing the desire to depict the continuity of tradition and the steadfast concept of natural beauty.
In this exhibition, the city is represented in the works of Dang Hiep, who describes his affinity with the architectural elements and structures of the old town, the narrow alleys and the cramped courtyards. He experiments with many other methods in general to introduce to the viewer the most representative image of the Vietnamese urban area.
