For more than two decades, Ms. Duong Thu Hang of Hanoi Studio Gallery has worked with many young Vietnamese artists, helping them orient and develop their artistic path. Nguyen Quoc Trung is also one of the artists who grew up thanks to that guidance. Ms. Hang was also a consultant for Craig Thomas when he started managing an art gallery in Saigon in the early 2000s, guiding him to discover and support promising young artists.

Regarding Nguyen Quoc Trung’s latest collection, Thien Tien, Ms. Hang said, “Trung has spent a lot of time and effort researching and mastering his own technique, to be able to make a thick and bold material like oil paint become fragile and soft like watercolor painting. Trung does not focus on describing the details of objects or using strong thick lines in his paintings. The slightest difference between light and dark creates a melody that is not marked by time, but instead is something eternal, giving the viewer a gentle and pure feeling.”

Talking about the Thien Tien collection, Trung said, “As time went on, the urge for something gentle grew, and of course the suggestion from Hanoi Studio was also very important in my search. Then one day, I decided to let everything unfold, to melt away, and I was immediately hypnotized. I felt the rhythm, the breath of those streaks of color as they melted away, I saw them as running, living, moving. That gentleness and flexibility was very similar to watercolor on paper, but technically, painting like that was completely different.”
