'Inside - Outside' - painting exhibition by artist Phuong Quoc Tri

Phuong Quoc Tri (born 1976) is a self-taught artist with a natural talent for creating compelling visual images in a very distinctive style. He has had numerous solo exhibitions in Vietnam and abroad. His live painting performances in Singapore and Tokyo have been very successful.

Tri is a skilled portrait artist. Whether it is through photographs or through direct perception, Tri has painted many portraits that not only truly represent the image but also the soul within that work.

In the Inside – Outside exhibition series, Tri focuses on demonstrating his portrait painting skills. On the opening day of the exhibition, artist Phuong Quoc Tri will organize a portrait painting session on site. This is a rare opportunity to enjoy the skillful strokes of this talented artist.

Tri’s works are rich in imagery. His main subjects are women from ethnic minorities, nudes and women in traditional ao dai. Each character tells a very unique story; some are nostalgic, some are strong, while some are very uncertain about their fate. His works are like classical music – the viewer is forced to think, compare and form their own opinions. His characters contain many deep feelings; their lives are filled with joy and sadness. The viewer’s eyes will be drawn deep into the images and follow the train of thought to find answers to difficult questions.
