The fantastic musical Dawn on Leith will open UK Film Week 2014, which is themed Scotland. Alongside Dawn on Leith, other films to be shown include Glasgow Style, The Survivor, Happy Endings Again and Shell. These films cover a wide range of genres and celebrate the diverse culture of Scotland.
Based on the popular musical of the same name and featuring a series of pop-folk songs by the band Proclaimers, Dawn on Leith is a critically acclaimed film, scoring a 92 out of 100 on the film review website Rotten Tomatoes.

This year’s UK Film Week also marks the first time the British Council Vietnam has partnered with the YxineFF Online Short Film Festival, a non-profit project supporting emerging filmmakers, to showcase seven short films by Vietnamese directors. These films will be screened alongside six award-winning Scottish short films.
On this occasion, the British Council also invited director Paul Welsh to Vietnam to lead two film pitching courses for aspiring filmmakers in Vietnam. Paul is the founder of Digicult, an independent film studio dedicated to supporting the development of young film talent. He produced Skeletons (2010), which was nominated for Best First Film at the 64th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA 64). In 2013, he co-produced Lore, which won the Feature Film Producer of the Year award from the Australian Film Producers Association.
The films will be shown at CGV cinemas in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Free tickets will be distributed at British Councils in the two cities, starting from September 15.
