According to the latest report of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) in 2024, Vietnam ranked 59th out of 119 destinations in terms of tourism development index, down 7 places compared to 2023.
TTDI is an upgrade of the WEF's Tourism Competitiveness Index, published every two years, based on the new context after the Covid-19 pandemic. WEF began researching and publishing this ranking in 2007. The index is ranked based on 5 main groups including operating environment, policies and support conditions, infrastructure, tourism demand drivers, and tourism sustainability.

Vietnam's TTDI score reached 3.96/7, down 0.14% compared to the total score of 4.1 in 2023. Compared to countries in the Southeast Asian region, Vietnam ranked behind Singapore (13), Indonesia (22), Malaysia (35) and Thailand (47), but ranked above the Philippines (69), Cambodia (86) and Laos (91).
The lowest score of Vietnam's tourism industry this year is service infrastructure with 2.2 points, ranking 80 out of 119.

Vietnam’s lowest ranking index is the socio-economic impact of the tourism industry with 2.95 points, ranking 115th, near the bottom of the rankings. This index measures the economic and social impact of the industry such as contribution to the economy, providing high-income jobs, and gender equality in the workforce.
WEF announced TTDI to provide another reputable scoring tool for stakeholders to evaluate the development progress of the tourism industry in countries as well as decide to invest in the tourism sector at a destination.
