Vietnamese heritage, culture, and cuisine have once again been outstanding factors bringing prestigious international awards to Vietnamese tourism. Accordingly, surpassing China, Thailand, Cambodia, India, etc., Vietnam was honored to be selected in three categories: Asia's Leading Heritage Destination, Asia's Leading Cultural Destination, and Asia's Leading Culinary Destination. This is the second consecutive year that Vietnam has been selected in all three categories.
According to the World Economic Forum's 2019 Tourism Competitiveness Report, Vietnam's cultural resources are ranked 29th, placing it among the world's leading countries. Within Southeast Asia, Vietnam ranks second, behind only Indonesia (ranked 24th).
Surpassing China, Thailand... Vietnam continues to be Asia's leading culinary destination.
Outperforming other strong contenders such as China, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia, Vietnam was honored to be voted the Best Golf Destination in Asia in 2020. This marks the fourth consecutive year that Vietnam has received this prestigious international award. Golf has been developing rapidly in Vietnam in recent years, moving towards increasing professionalism. Along with this is the development of golf tourism, a very attractive trend for both domestic and international tourists, especially those from countries in the region such as South Korea.
In the accommodation category, Vietnam's InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort received three awards: "Asia's Leading Luxury Resort," "Asia's Leading Green Resort," and "Asia's Leading Romantic Resort"; the InterContinental Resort in Long Beach, Phu Quoc, received the title of "Asia's Leading Luxury Family Resort."
According to WTA, the captivating blend of high-end Indochinese architecture in a mountainous setting has earned Hotel de la Coupole, MGallery Sapa the title of "Asia's Leading Designed Hotel".
Among the new categories, Vietnam's Premier Village Ha Long Bay resort received the title of "Asia's Leading New Resort".
This year marks the first time Vietnam has won the Leading Heritage Destination in Asia award.
In the aviation sector, the WTA noted that unprecedented fleet upgrades have helped Vietnam Airlines, the national airline of Vietnam, receive the titles of "Asia's Leading Airline - Economy Class"; "Asia's Leading Airline - Premium Economy Class" and "Asia's Leading Cultural Airline".
Bamboo Airways is honored to receive the title of "Leading Regional Airline in Asia".
In addition, Van Don Airport in Quang Ninh received two accolades: "Asia's Leading Airport Lounge" and "Asia's Leading Regional Airport".
In the tour operator category, Vietravel received the title of "Leading Tour Operator in Asia".
Vietnam's Cuc Phuong National Park receives the award for Asia's Leading National Park in 2020 - for the second consecutive year.
The WTA stated that these results were obtained after a year of evaluation and review by experts and the public in the travel industry. Graham Cooke, founder of the WTA, said: “The winners represent the best of Asia’s travel and tourism industry, and I extend my congratulations to all. They have all demonstrated remarkable resilience in an unprecedentedly challenging year.”
He added: “The 2020 World Travel Awards received a record number of public votes. This demonstrates the desire to travel and bodes well for the future of the tourism industry as the global recovery begins.”
