The place known as the 'Kingdom of Bougainvillea'

The tradition of growing bougainvillea in Cai Mon village began nearly 20 years ago, but only in the last 4-5 years, after the construction of bridges and roads, has Lan Dong hamlet expanded and developed the bougainvillea growing profession. Each year, households grow up to several hundred flowers, some grow up to 3,000-4,000. In particular, some households grow up to tens of thousands of flowers. The total number of trees planted in the area is estimated at several hundred thousand. The bougainvillea here is considered beautiful, blooming evenly, and has many colors. Traders from North to South come to buy quite a lot, including the provinces of Tay Ninh, Bac Lieu, even Hanoi and Con Dao.

Special features of paper flowers

This year, the weather was favorable, the flowers bloomed beautifully, and many households sold well after the full moon of December. The remaining pots of flowers were just waiting for traders to come and sell. Garden owners shared that growing bougainvillea also requires a lot of technique. Newcomers who do not understand the technique will cause the flowers to lose their color and fall off quickly.

Normally, to prepare for Tet, from August, florists start planting trees, on October 20th, they trim the tops and after nearly a month, the flowers will bloom and grow bigger. The flowers can last until January without falling off. In recent years, growers often spray chemicals to keep the flowers longer, so they can travel long distances without falling off, so they sell for a good price.

Bougainvillea usually blooms during the monsoon season (near Tet), so when you buy it, you don’t need to take much care of it, it will bloom on its own. Each flower tree is 0.6-1m high and costs from 100,000-400,000 VND depending on the type. There are perennial trees with beautiful bonsai shapes, costing up to tens of millions.
