On May 11th, Mr. Tran Van Phuc, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Dinh province, announced that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has agreed to cooperate with the locality to organize the Ocean Tuna Festival.
From July 28th to 31st, the Ocean Tuna Festival will take place in Binh Dinh province to promote the brand and support fishermen in increasing their income from catching this type of fish.
Tuna is a major aquatic resource of Binh Dinh province.
According to Mr. Phuc, the Binh Dinh Ocean Tuna Festival aims to showcase the strengths of ocean tuna fishing, gradually enhancing the position of the tuna fishing industry in particular and the fisheries industry in general on the international stage.
"The festival is a good opportunity to promote and sell the Binh Dinh brand of ocean tuna, contributing to improving the efficiency of exploitation, building a production chain, and expanding the domestic and export markets for tuna products," Mr. Phuc said.
On average, fishermen in Binh Dinh province make 11 offshore tuna fishing trips each year (each trip lasting about 25 days). To catch this type of fish, they have to lower fishing lines with hooks attached to catch fresh squid into the sea at depths of 60-100 meters.
According to Mr. Nguyen Chi Cong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoai Nhon town, Tam Quan Bac ward has approximately 1,150 offshore fishing vessels with more than 6,000 fishermen catching tuna, achieving an annual production of about 10,000 tons and a revenue of 1,000 billion VND.
According to the Vietnam Ocean Tuna Association, there are currently 35,000 fishermen nationwide engaged in catching ocean tuna, mainly concentrated in the three provinces of Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, and Khanh Hoa. The annual catch reaches approximately 17,000 tons, with over 6,000 fishermen specifically in Tam Quan Bac ward, Hoai Nhon town (Binh Dinh province).
The Ocean Tuna Festival in Binh Dinh takes place from July 28th to 31st.
Also in July, Binh Dinh province organized many cultural and artistic activities of international stature, such as the final round of the Miss World Vietnam 2022 competition at Merryland Quy Nhon, the VN Express Marathon Quy Nhon, etc. The province aims to attract nearly 3.4 million tourists by the end of the year and 8 million tourists by the end of 2025.
