From July 1, Vietnamese citizens in the country and Vietnamese citizens abroad will begin to be issued ordinary passports without electronic chips according to the new model.
On the same morning, at the headquarters of the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security and the Immigration Department of Hanoi City Police, many people lined up to apply for new and renewed passports.
The new passport retains the same size but has a change in the cover page by changing it to purple-blue.
A month ago, to prepare for the launch of the new passport model, the Ministry of Public Security and local police temporarily stopped issuing passports for "non-urgent" cases.
Therefore, the number of people waiting for their passports to be reissued is higher than usual.
According to a representative of the Immigration Department of Hanoi City Police, on the morning of July 1, more than 1,000 people came to the two passport issuance locations of the unit in Dong Da and Ha Dong districts to complete procedures.
This figure is estimated to be many times higher than the previous normal day, due to the reasons mentioned above.
Inside the new passport are printed images of Vietnamese symbols.
Grasping the situation, the Immigration Department of Hanoi City Police has doubled its staff and opened more reception doors to meet the needs of people coming to do passport procedures.
The Ministry of Public Security said that compared to the old model, the new ordinary passport model has many improvements, ensuring security techniques and is difficult to counterfeit.
The new passport retains the same size but has a change on the cover page by changing to purple-blue. On each page are typical images of landscapes, symbols of national sovereignty, and famous cultural heritages of the country such as: Ha Long Bay, Hue Imperial City, Hung Temple, Hoi An Ancient Town, My Son Sanctuary, Nha Rong Wharf, Lung Cu Flagpole, To Vo Gate - Ly Son Island...
This design contributes to affirming and promoting images of Vietnam to the world, demonstrating Vietnamese tradition, history, geography and culture.
