From July 1st, Vietnamese citizens residing in Vietnam and those living abroad will begin to be issued ordinary passports without electronic chips, following the new design.
On the morning of the same day, at the headquarters of the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security and the Immigration Management Department of the Hanoi City Police, a large number of people lined up to complete procedures for new passport applications and passport renewals.
The new passport retains the same size but features a change to the cover page, which is now a bluish-purple color.
A month ago, in preparation for the launch of the new passport design, the Ministry of Public Security and local police temporarily suspended issuing passports for "non-urgent" cases.
Therefore, the number of people waiting for passport issuance to resume has increased more than usual.
According to a representative from the Immigration Management Department of the Hanoi City Police, on the morning of July 1st, more than 1,000 people came to the two passport issuance locations of the unit in Dong Da and Ha Dong districts to complete the procedures.
This figure is considered many times higher than the previous normal day, for the reasons mentioned above.
The new passports feature printed images of Vietnamese symbols.
Anticipating the situation, the Immigration Management Department of the Hanoi City Police doubled its staff and opened more service counters to meet the needs of people applying for passports.
The Ministry of Public Security stated that compared to the old model, the new ordinary passport has many improvements, ensuring security features and making it difficult to counterfeit.
The new passport retains the same size but features a changed cover page, now in a bluish-purple color. Each page displays iconic landscapes, symbols of national sovereignty, and famous cultural heritage sites such as Ha Long Bay, Hue Imperial City, Hung Temple, Hoi An Ancient Town, My Son Sanctuary, Nha Rong Port, Lung Cu Flagpole, and To Vo Arch - Ly Son Island…
This design contributes to affirming and promoting images of Vietnam to the world, showcasing Vietnam's traditions, history, geography, and culture.
