Previously, the Nepalese Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation announced the individuals who had registered and been approved to participate in the Everest climbing expeditions in 2022, including two names from Vietnam: Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha and Phan Thanh Nhien.
Thanh Nha successfully conquered Mount Vinson, 4,892 meters high, in Antarctica earlier this year. In 2019, she also set foot on Mount Elbrus, 5,642 meters high, and Mount Carstensz, 4,884 meters high. These are the two highest mountains in Europe and Oceania, respectively.
The first woman to reach the summit of Everest in 1975 was a Japanese teacher named Junko Tabei. The most recent successful ascent of Everest was on June 1, 2021, by seven female climbers. As of December 2021, 678 female climbers had reached the summit. The oldest was Janice Catherine Smith from Australia, who conquered Everest at the age of 68.
