May 11th marked the first time a group of 38 foreign climbers conquered Mount Everest since the Nepalese government allowed climbing activities to resume after a year-long closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to information from Nepal's Ministry of Tourism, in April, several climbers in this expedition had to leave their stopover point on Mount Everest after exhibiting symptoms of Covid-19 amidst Nepal's response to a second wave of the pandemic.

Previously, Nepal had to announce the closure of Mount Everest due to the pandemic outbreak in March 2020, but it reopened for this year's climbing season, which began in April.
Authorities have issued 408 permits, allowing athletes to explore the summit of this mountain, which stands at 8,848.86 meters.

In recent days, Nepal has been witnessing a sharp increase in new Covid-19 cases. According to data on the Worldometers website, the number of patients in the country is currently 413,111, of which 4,084 have died.
