Shaping a new direction for tourism development.
The official merger of Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces on July 1, 2025, marks a significant milestone, forming a new administrative unit with its center located in Dong Hoi city. This is not only a geographical adjustment but also opens up new development opportunities for a region rich in natural resources, culture, and human capital.
Dong Hoi City is gradually asserting its central role thanks to its favorable location and increasingly完善 transportation infrastructure. Few cities in Central Vietnam possess such a complete range of key transportation modes – air, rail, road, and waterway – creating favorable conditions for inter-regional connectivity and economic and tourism development.
According to Ho Van Hoan, Deputy Director of the Quang Tri Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism: "Previously, we had cave tourism, and now we have added spiritual and historical tourism. All of this is opening up opportunities to shape a new tourism brand for Quang Tri province."
Dong Hoi Airport is a future international air gateway currently undergoing expansion and capacity upgrades to serve not only domestic tourists but also to connect directly with major cities in the region such as Bangkok, Singapore, and Seoul. Dong Hoi Railway Station, located on the North-South railway line, plays a crucial role as a transit point for passengers and goods.
The North-South Expressway, passing through Dong Hoi, along with National Highway 1A, the Ho Chi Minh Highway, and the national coastal road, creates an extremely convenient regional connectivity network. In particular, the Nhat Le Bridge system (1, 2, and soon Nhat Le Bridge 3) is contributing to connecting the city center with the Bao Ninh peninsula – an area planned for high-class resort tourism development – offering opportunities for breakthroughs in the marine economy and tourism services.

Diverse river and sea topography - unique ecological landscape
Not only is Dong Hoi situated in a convenient location, but it is also blessed with the gentle beauty of its rivers and seas. Nearly 20 km of coastline with fine white sand, brilliant sunshine, and clear blue waters has created charming beaches such as Nhat Le, Quang Phu, and Bao Ninh – destinations already familiar to many beach-loving tourists.
Besides the sea, the river system in Dong Hoi also contributes to the city's unique charm. Rivers like Nhat Le, Le Ky, and Phong Thuy quietly meander through residential areas and winding through new streets – helping to regulate the climate while opening up potential for developing river tourism, ecotourism, and suburban excursions. These gentle, slow-flowing waters pass through the lives and memories of the people, softening the pace of modern development in a coastal city that is constantly changing.

The merger of Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces with Dong Hoi as the new center has opened a new chapter for this region.
