The Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang's tourist beaches, the unit tasked with organizing the tour, said that after billionaire Bill Gates' tea-drinking and sightseeing trip in March, Ban Co Peak became more famous, attracting many domestic and international tourists. The billionaire's tea-drinking experience "aroused curiosity," making many tourists want a similar experience, so the unit advised the Department of Tourism to develop a tea-drinking tour.
During his visit to Ban Co Peak, billionaire Bill Gates sat down for tea and chatted with tea artisan Hoang Anh Suong, admiring the sunset and lights of Da Nang city at the Ong Tien chessboard area. After Bill Gates' visit and tea time there, Ban Co Peak became even more attractive to visitors.
With the introduction of tea-tasting tours on the summit of Ban Co Mountain, the city promises to offer visitors new and unforgettable experiences.
This tour is part of the nature exploration products of the "Da Nang, a New Journey of Discovery" campaign. During the tour, visitors will also have the opportunity to see the rare brown-footed langurs on Son Tra Peninsula.
During the tour, visitors will experience the tea-making and tea-drinking customs of the past; learn about tea-making tools, how to choose teapots, cups, and water; and how to brew, pour, serve, or enjoy tea under the guidance of an artisan.
Bill Gates' appearance has sparked curiosity about this tour.
Guests are allocated private tea-drinking time slots with small groups to fully enjoy the experience and avoid disturbing other visitors. This product targets high-end customers who enjoy cultural and tea-drinking experiences. The management board stated that they are developing a plan and seeking feedback from relevant agencies. "Once the principle is agreed upon, we will implement specific steps to create the tea-drinking tour," a representative from the board shared.
This is considered one of the strategic steps to elevate Da Nang tourism and attract high-end tourists.
Vietnamese tea culture has a long history. Tea is not only a refreshing beverage but also an indispensable part of Vietnamese rituals, festivals, and social interactions. Alongside China, Japan, and Sri Lanka, Vietnam is considered one of the cradles of tea ceremony in the world. With its long history, diverse culture, and vast ancient tea forests, Vietnam proudly possesses a unique tea-drinking culture deeply rooted in national identity. Each cup of tea is not just a beverage, but also a story, a meaningful cultural experience. Vietnam boasts vast ancient tea forests in provinces such as Ha Giang, Son La, Yen Bai, and Lai Chau, with tea trees aged 500-600 years.
Ban Co Peak, standing at 700 meters above sea level, is the highest point on the Son Tra Peninsula and is considered the "roof" of Da Nang. From the summit, visitors can admire panoramic views of the sea and the city of Da Nang. It is also a popular tourist attraction. The winding road to the summit allows visitors to experience the natural landscape of the Son Tra Peninsula.
