Emirates SkyCargo promotes the export of fresh produce from Vietnam to the UAE.

25/05/2017

Emirates SkyCargo, the cargo arm of Emirates Airlines, plays a crucial role in facilitating trade links for perishable goods from Vietnam to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Over the past year, the company has increased its shipments of fresh fruit, including rambutan and lychee, from Vietnam to Dubai by nearly fivefold.

Vietnam is a key export market for food products, and in 2016, the total export value of agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products from the country exceeded US$32 billion. As a global trade facilitator, Emirates SkyCargo has always worked closely with Vietnam – specifically with the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (Vietrade) – in understanding the requirements of domestic exporters and helping to develop export opportunities for Vietnamese goods to international markets, especially to the UAE and other Middle Eastern countries. Thanks to the collaborative efforts between Emirates SkyCargo and Vietrade, the volume of fresh produce exports from Vietnam to Dubai increased significantly, reaching a record high of nearly 110 tons in January 2017.

“Emirates SkyCargo began operations in Vietnam in 2008 and has since played a significant role in promoting trade between Vietnam and the UAE. Through close cooperation with Vietrade and our expertise in transporting perishable goods, we have developed air freight solutions to enhance the export of premium fruits and vegetables from Vietnam to Dubai,” said Ravishankar Mirle, Vice President of Cargo for the Far East and Oceania at Emirates. “We will work with our customers and stakeholders to promote and develop new commercial routes serving exports from Vietnam to international markets,” he added.

According to Mr. Pham Binh Dam, the Vietnamese Ambassador to the UAE: “Vietnam has an enormous competitive advantage in the agricultural sector. That is why we requested Emirates SkyCargo to develop a supply service to support the export of fresh produce via air freight, leveraging our national strengths. We are also very pleased to see the surge in export volume last year and will continue to work with producers and exporters in Vietnam to strengthen market penetration. Thank you Emirates SkyCargo for listening to our aspirations and establishing this excellent cooperative relationship.”

Currently, Emirates SkyCargo operates 18 weekly flights, including 4 dedicated cargo flights, with a total capacity of over 580 tons per week for Vietnamese exporters. The launch of daily passenger flights from Dubai to Hanoi on a Boeing 777-300ER, with a cargo capacity of 20 tons per flight, starting July 1, 2017, will further boost trade in goods from Vietnam to various markets thanks to Emirates SkyCargo's extensive global network, with 155 destinations in 83 countries. Besides fresh fruit, Emirates SkyCargo also facilitates the export of many Vietnamese electronic goods and seafood.

Emirates SkyCargo currently operates a modern fleet of 259 aircraft, including 15 cargo planes, of which 13 are Boeing 777-Fs and 2 are B747-400ERFs. Recently, the airline also launched Emirates SkyFresh – a solution designed to ensure the freshness of perishable goods throughout their transport. Emirates SkyCargo also operates a state-of-the-art refrigeration system within its Emirates SkyCentral facilities at Dubai International Airport and Dubai World Central, with over 25,000 square meters of temperature-controlled storage and a fleet of refrigerated trucks operating 24/7 between the two locations.
