25/01/2021

Recently, Jay Quan released the MV "Take You Away" set in Da Nang, with the hope of promoting the tourism industry after the pandemic. Let's listen to Travellive as Jay Quan shares the stories behind the making of this meaningful MV.

With the desire to promote the tourism industry after the pandemic, Jay Quan and his team had the idea of making a series of music videos with the background being famous destinations across Vietnam. Each MV is made like a short film introducing the beautiful scenery, people, cuisine, and culture of each region.

Jay Quan chose Da Nang as the setting for the first MV in his project, called "Take You Away - Take Me Away" with the participation of his wife Chung Huyen Thanh.

Join Travellive to listen to Jay Quan share the stories behind the making of this meaningful MV.

Hi, I understand that you and your team are planning to make a series of music videos combining music and travel, and “Take You Away” is the first product in the project. Why did you use this idea?

Quan simply wants to put all his passions into one product: music, cinema and travel. Partly because of the pandemic, I have had the opportunity to travel domestically more and have to admit that our Vietnam is so beautiful, and it would be a waste not to make films from the perspective of young people to show off to our compatriots and the world.

In the MV “Take You Away”, many beautiful scenes of Da Nang appeared such as My Khe beach, Ngu Hanh Son, Ba Na Hill, Golden Bridge… Did you have any special reason for choosing Da Nang as the setting for the first MV of this project?

The reason Quan chose Da Nang is because this is one of the tourist cities most heavily affected by the Covid-19 epidemic. Right after the social distancing period, Da Nang and Hoi An directly suffered a storm, causing even more damage. Up to this point, the after-effects of the epidemic and storm on the city can still be clearly seen, and Quan made the MV with the hope that it will somehow help promote tourism for Da Nang and Hoi An so that people here can soon return to normal life.

During the process of making the MV, do you have any memorable memories?

A memorable memory was on the first day of filming, Dat, who was responsible for filming FPV scenes with a specialized aircraft, tried to do a difficult scene and caused the aircraft to crash into the bridge and fall into the swimming pool. Luckily, he brought an extra aircraft so it did not affect the filming progress and the damage to the other aircraft was about 30 million. The following days of filming were quite stressful because flying FPV is an extremely difficult technique, in Vietnam there are only a few people who can fly like him.

Da Nang appears in the MV with many beautiful and impressive destinations. Among them, which destination do you personally love the most? And is there any destination that makes you feel regretful because you could not include it in the MV?

Quan likes Son Tra peninsula because the sea and mountains here are majestic and beautiful, the crew has filmed many epic photos here. There are 2 points that Quan regrets not being able to include in the MV: the scene of releasing flower lanterns in Hoi An. Due to the impact of the epidemic, there are much fewer tourists coming to Hoi An than before, so even though the crew tried to buy as many lanterns as possible to release, it was not enough to have a beautiful photo shoot. The second destination that I also regret not being able to include in the MV is the image of the rice fields. When the crew arrived in Da Nang, the storm had just passed for a week, so the rice fields were severely damaged.

Even though she was more than 6 months pregnant, Chung Huyen Thanh's wife still appeared in your MV. Did you encounter any difficulties while filming?

Luckily, Thanh was in good health and did not suffer from morning sickness, so the filming of the MV was quite comfortable. For the scenes that required running or strenuous exercise, only Quan did it. But Quan also had to thank his wife for her good performance. If he had not filmed the scene of kissing her belly at the end of the MV, no one would have known that Thanh was pregnant when filming.

Is the MV “Take You Away” also a gift from the two of you to the baby that is about to be born?

Yes. Quan cherishes every member of his family, his wife and children are always the inspiration for his artistic creation.

Can you tell us anything about the upcoming MV?

Quan is in the process of planning the next MV, I can't reveal much but it will definitely still be a combination of music with travel and bring positive energy.
