World's longest cable car opens in Phu Quoc.

04/02/2018

On February 4, 2018, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province, Phu Quoc island district, and Sun Group Corporation inaugurated a 7,900m long three-wire cable car system connecting An Thoi town with Hon Thom island – the largest island in the An Thoi archipelago. The Hon Thom cable car, once operational, will be a driving force for economic and tourism development in the southern part of Phu Quoc island.

The Hon Thom cable car is a 3-wire cable car system using European technology, with 6 cable towers, built across Hon Dua and Hon Roi islands. With a total length of 7,900m, the Hon Thom cable car has been awarded the Guinness World Record for the longest cable car in the world. It has 69 cabins, each carrying approximately 30 passengers. The cable car's speed is set at 8.5m/s, with an estimated capacity of 3,500 passengers per hour. The Hon Thom cable car shortens travel time from An Thoi to Hon Thom to 15 minutes, compared to 30 minutes by speedboat. All cabins are equipped with Wi-Fi and nighttime lighting.

According to a representative from Sun Group, the ticket price for this cable car line is 500,000 VND per person for adults and children over 1.3 meters tall; 350,000 VND per person for children between 1.3 and 1 meter tall; and free for children under 1 meter tall.

Following the opening ceremony, the cable car and the Sun World Hon Thom Nature Park marine entertainment complex will welcome visitors on February 14, 2018, which is the 29th day of the Lunar New Year.
