This was an opportunity for high-level discussions on innovation in vocational education funded by France in Vietnam. The event was attended by Mr. Le Quan - Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs; Mr. Nguyen Dinh Toan - Deputy Minister of Construction; Ms. Nguyen Hoa Hiep - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Nai province; Mr. Vincent Floreani - Consul General of France in Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh, Director General of the General Department of Vocational Education; the AFD Vietnam management board; representatives of the Youth Union; participating schools; and Vietnamese and French businesses.

Also on this occasion, Lilama 2 School and Business France, the French trade and investment agency, will organize a job fair on campus so that students, vocational schools, and businesses can meet and build relationships.
Meanwhile, on May 18th in Ho Chi Minh City, the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam (CCIFV) and France Alumni Vietnam – the French Embassy in Vietnam – jointly organized the 2019 France-Vietnam Job Fair. The 2018 event was very successful, and this year, it is estimated that around 40 companies will participate with over 200 job openings.
Currently, a quarter of Vietnam's population is aged between 15 and 29. This presents a significant opportunity in the context of rapid development. Modernizing vocational training programs (including advanced vocational training) is essential to capitalize on this opportunity, especially for promising industries. The event will bring together students, vocational schools, government agencies, and businesses. A roundtable discussion will be held on the challenges and prospects of vocational education in Vietnam. This will also be an opportunity for Lilama 2 College to showcase its facilities, equipment, and programs that it has benefited from through an AFD-funded project.

"With ODA funding support from the French Government, Lilama 2 has built an energy-efficient building; simultaneously upgraded and invested in the comprehensive and in-depth development of welding technology; and invested in two new telecommunications training programs to serve the human resource training needs of Long Thanh International Airport. These training programs adhere to French standards and are closely linked with businesses during the training process," said Mr. Nguyen Khanh Cuong, Principal of Lilama 2.
To support the modernization of vocational education, AFD has funded a project to upgrade five vocational schools through various forms (building infrastructure, providing equipment, technical support) to help them become centers for high-level vocational training and offer training programs based on the French model. This includes the construction of the E-building at Lilama 2 school, which will be inaugurated on May 10, 2019, and the capacity building program for the school's teachers and administrators.
"We are proud that our funding for innovation in vocational schools in Vietnam is directly benefiting Vietnamese youth and the future of the country," said Fabrice Richy, Director of AFD in Vietnam.
