This is a practical activity at the Vietnam International Tourism Fair (VITM Hanoi 2016) aimed at building an image of civilized and courteous Vietnamese people when traveling abroad, contributing to making Vietnam's image more beautiful in the eyes of international friends.
The launch event attracted 2,000 tourism students.
Mr. Vu The Binh, Vice President of the Vietnam Tourism Association, stated that in recent times, some Vietnamese tourists have exhibited uncivilized behavior while traveling abroad. In this age of information explosion, such behaviors spread rapidly. The negative impact of these phenomena not only adversely affects tourism activities but also impacts the national image and Vietnam's integration process. Simultaneously, uncivilized behavior by a significant portion of Vietnamese businesspeople and tourists is becoming increasingly common. From forgetting to greet, thank, or make requests, to littering, pushing and shoving, arguing loudly on the streets, wasting food, breaking branches, picking flowers unconsciously, defacing, drawing graffiti, carving names, and destroying artifacts at historical sites, these actions have further tarnished the image of Vietnamese people in general and Vietnamese tourists in particular. In response to this situation, the Vietnam Tourism Association, in coordination with relevant authorities, is implementing a nationwide program to "Improve the Image of Vietnamese Tourists".

Mr. Vu The Binh, Vice President of the Vietnam Tourism Association, delivered a speech at the launching ceremony.
The core content of the program is to encourage all citizens to practice 10 positive behaviors when traveling: Maintaining a friendly smile, greeting and saying thank you and sorry in communication; Queuing in an orderly manner, without pushing or shoving, and not causing noise in public places; Not wasting food, not taking excess food or drinks; Not littering, maintaining general hygiene, and protecting the environment; Respecting and consciously giving way to others, complying with traffic laws; Helping and prioritizing the elderly, disabled people, women, and children; Respecting the customs, traditions, and culture of each locality; Listening to explanations and learning information about tourist attractions when visiting; Not drawing, carving, or touching artifacts at historical sites and exhibitions; Caring for, helping, and sharing with other members of the group when traveling.
"These are just simple things that people in civilized society have been doing. The forces implementing the program are the community of tourism businesses, tourism journalists, and tourism students nationwide. We call on all sectors of society to support this program not only to enhance the image of Vietnamese tourists but also to promote positive behaviors in society, combat negativity, and contribute to affirming the Vietnamese nation as a nation with high culture, civilization, and politeness," Mr. Binh added.
Immediately after the launching ceremony, the students participated in picking up trash and cleaning up the environment.
At the launch ceremony, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Ngo Hoai Chung, affirmed that in order to raise awareness among Vietnamese people when traveling abroad, the National Administration of Tourism, in coordination with the Vietnam Tourism Association, has developed a draft "Campaign to promote civilized behavior while traveling." Accordingly, this document will guide basic codes of conduct to orient the behavior, attitude, and manner of civilized and polite conduct for Vietnamese people participating in tourism activities abroad as well as at destinations within Vietnam. In the near future, the National Administration of Tourism and the Vietnam Tourism Association will soon finalize the draft code of conduct to submit to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for promulgation and widespread dissemination. At the launch ceremony, students participated in picking up trash and cleaning the environment at the Vietnam International Tourism Fair, aiming to spread the program to raise awareness and promote civilized behavior among Vietnamese people when traveling, especially abroad.
