From May 20th to 24th, athletes will participate in the National Paragliding Club Championship over the sea and islands of Ly Son (Quang Ngai), the homeland of the Hoang Sa Naval Squadron. Currently, 5 teams with 50 athletes have registered to participate in the competition.

For this year's event, Quang Ngai province has chosen Thoi Loi mountain peak, 170 meters above sea level, as the competition venue. In addition, the planned paragliding landing area is approximately 500 square meters.2Thoi Loi Mountain has been surveyed and assessed as an ideal and safe flying location for organizing paragliding competitions. In 2019, an international paragliding competition was also held here, with the participation of many paragliding pilots from around the world.
"The purpose of the competition is to promote the physical education and sports movement, contribute to promoting the image and boosting tourism on Ly Son Island," Mr. Dung said.
This is also an opportunity to train and assess the skill level of Vietnamese paragliding athletes. Through this, athletes will be prepared to compete in regional and world paragliding competitions. Athletes participating in the competition must have personal injury insurance, accident insurance, and be fully equipped with life vests before takeoff.
"The athletes will perform paragliding demonstrations, thereby introducing Ly Son Island and Quang Ngai province to domestic and international tourists," Mr. Dung said.

Ly Son Island is located 15 nautical miles from the mainland of Quang Ngai province. Tourists can reach the island from Sa Ky port by speedboat. The island consists of a large island and a small island with a population of approximately 22,000 people.
In June 2019, the first International Paragliding Championship was also held in Ly Son island district, with the participation of more than 100 athletes from 10 countries such as Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Laos, and Vietnam...
