Located on the outskirts of the capital Kiev, the project to build and paint the entire town of Comfort was completed in 2019. Unlike the dull and simple gray buildings of the neighborhood, this place used to be a run-down residential area with a gray appearance from the 50s of the 20th century. Comfort stands out among the residential areas on the outskirts of Kiev
“The budget was limited so we had to use the simplest materials and techniques. Instead, we thought of using color as the main factor that would determine this change,” said architect Vasyliev, one of the main people in charge of the project.
From above, Comfort looks like a giant lego town.
It took architects and engineers 11 years to design the Lego town, especially when the budget was limited. This is the creative work of architects Dmytro Vasyliev, Aleksandr Popov, Olga Alfiorova from Archimatika company. The purpose of turning Comfort into a "toy kingdom" was initially to attract people to move here to live. Therefore, the government decided to turn the residential area with an area of nearly half a million square meters2This becomes more attractive.
Thanks to the bright colors, many people flocked to this area. And it has the highest home buying rate in Ukraine. To date, the residential area welcomes more than 20,000 people living there.
“You either love it or you hate it. It's all about what you think about this place,” said one resident.
Apartments in Comfort are almost sold out, you can't buy them if you want.
Inside this colorful town are cafes, shops and offices, a 4,500 m2 commercial complex2, 4,600 m2 sports and entertainment area2with 8,500 apartments. Gradually, the town of Comfort not only attracts people but this place also gradually becomes famous and is an indispensable check-in location for tourists when visiting the capital Kiev.
Comfort is not the only place in the world that has seven colors of the rainbow. In Türkiye, Kuşadası, located off the Aegean coast, has similar colors. It is popular with tourists because of its location near Ephesus, a bustling seaport that is always crowded with tourists. In addition, houses on Banwol Island, South Korea, are painted purple to attract visitors. A village in Malaga, Spain, is also a famous tourist destination when painted blue, inspired by the hit movie "Smurfs".
Before it had such a fresh look, Comfort Town was a drab, gray neighborhood.
Unlike many old abandoned buildings, Comfort Town is remarkably well preserved. The site of the building is a converted rubber factory on the left bank of Kiev, an area often derided for its unattractive buildings due to its lack of famous landmarks, poor transport links, and numerous Soviet-era housing projects.
In lego town, green spaces are also focused with many squares, parks, and outdoor sports centers. Not only providing a beautiful and comfortable living space for residents, Comfort also becomes a famous and attractive tourist destination.
