A town for Lego enthusiasts.

The town of Comfort in Ukraine is often described as a fairytale toy kingdom because, viewed from above, it looks like a labyrinth of Lego models.

Located on the outskirts of Kyiv, the town of Comfort was completely renovated and repainted in 2019. Unlike the dull and monotonous gray buildings of the surrounding area, this place was once a dilapidated residential area with a gray exterior dating back to the 1950s. After reconstruction, Comfort is now vibrant with houses painted both walls and roofs in bright colors such as green, pink, orange, and yellow.

Comfort stands out among the residential areas in the suburbs of Kyiv.

Architect Vasyliev, one of the main people in charge of the project, shared: “Due to limited funds, we had to use the simplest materials and techniques. Instead, we thought about using color as the main element to determine this transformation.”

To build the Lego town, architects and engineers spent 11 years designing it, especially given the limited budget. This is the creative work of architects Dmytro Vasyliev, Aleksandr Popov, and Olga Alfiorova from the Archimatika company. The initial goal of transforming Comfort into a "toy kingdom" was to attract people to live there. Therefore, the authorities decided to transform the residential area, which covers nearly half a million square meters, into a toy town.2This becomes more appealing.

Thanks to its vibrant colors, many people flocked to the area, resulting in the highest home purchase rate in Ukraine. To date, the residential area welcomes over 20,000 residents.

"You either love it or you hate it. That's all you think about this place," a local resident said.

Apartments at Comfort are almost sold out; it's not easy to buy one even if you want to.

Inside this colorful town are cafes, shops, and offices, a 4,500 m² commercial complex.2, a sports and recreation area covering 4,600 m²2With 8,500 apartments, the town of Comfort gradually attracted not only locals but also became famous and a must-visit check-in spot for tourists visiting the capital city of Kyiv.

Comfort isn't the only place in the world with a rainbow of colors. In Türkiye, Kuşadası, located off the Aegean coast, also boasts similar colors. It's popular with tourists because of its proximity to Ephesus, a bustling port always crowded with visitors. Furthermore, houses on Banwol Island, South Korea, are painted purple to attract tourists. A village in Malaga, Spain, is also a popular tourist destination, painted blue, inspired by the hit movie "The Smurfs."

Trước khi có vẻ ngoài tươi tắn như thế, Comfort Town từng là một khu nhà xám xịt, buồn tẻ

Before its current vibrant appearance, Comfort Town used to be a dreary, gray neighborhood.

Unlike many old, abandoned buildings, Comfort Town is remarkably well-preserved. The building's site was renovated from a rubber factory on the left bank of Kyiv, an area often ridiculed for its unattractive buildings due to a lack of famous landmarks, poor transportation, and numerous Soviet-era housing projects.

In the Lego town, green spaces are also emphasized with many squares, parks, and outdoor sports centers. Not only does it provide a beautiful and convenient living space for residents, Comfort has also become a popular and attractive tourist destination.
