Vietnam ranks 5th in the world for importing Korean ginseng.

Currently, Vietnam is South Korea's fifth largest market, after Japan, China, Hong Kong, and the United States, with ginseng products exported exceeding $10 million annually.

Recognizing the importance of Korean ginseng, on the morning of November 2nd, the Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Agency held a seminar in Hanoi on the scientific advantages and effectiveness of Korean ginseng, a product currently establishing itself as a leading health food in Vietnam.

The seminar was attended by numerous reputable experts in traditional medicine and functional foods, with important presentations on the effects of ginseng on health enhancement. In particular, it provided newly published scientific information to help better understand the advantages of Korean ginseng.

 

 

Different types of ginseng were introduced at the workshop.

According to medicine, ginseng is a rare and precious herb with a bitter taste, non-toxic, and has the effect of greatly replenishing vital energy, helping to improve health and enhance physical strength thanks to important organic compounds such as Germanium, Panaxin glycoside, along with vitamins B1, B2, fatty acids such as palmitic, stearic, and linoleic acids, and amino acids. In particular, ginseng has excellent effects in nourishing the brain, developing thinking and intelligence, strengthening the immune system, supporting cancer treatment, and preventing aging. In addition, this herb can also be used to support treatment in cases of anemia, gastritis, asthma, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease…

Korean ginseng is a medicinal herb that has long been famous worldwide. Currently, Vietnam is South Korea's fifth largest market, after Japan, China, Hong Kong, and the United States, with ginseng products exported exceeding $10 million annually.

 

 

Mr. Heo Song Moo, Pharmaceutical and Food Counselor from the Korean Embassy in Vietnam, delivered a speech.

Sharing his thoughts on ginseng, Mr. Pham Hung Cung – Vice President of the Vietnam Functional Food Association – said that ginseng, especially Korean ginseng, has been a favorite and trusted medicinal herb among Vietnamese people for thousands of years due to its amazing health benefits. “With the availability of a wide variety of ginseng from Korea through official distributors, Vietnamese people will have more opportunities to access this rare and precious medicinal herb, thereby improving their physical and mental health,” Mr. Pham Hung Cung emphasized.

 

 

Mr. Choi Jung Ki, Director of aT's Hanoi Representative Office, spoke at the seminar.

According to Mr. Choi Jung Ki, Chief Representative of aT in Hanoi, Vietnam is the 5th largest export market for Korean ginseng, with export value reaching US$11 million in 2016 and expected to increase further from 2018 when the FTA between Vietnam and Korea comes into effect, reducing the tariff rate to 0%. “Korean ginseng is a precious medicinal herb for human health that has been recognized worldwide. We always hope that more and more Vietnamese people will be able to use high-quality ginseng products, processed from the best and most exquisite ginseng roots.”
