What type of visa do you need?

There are two types of Taiwan visas: sticker visas and electronic visas (e-visas). E-visas are essentially a visa-free option for eligible individuals.

1. You can apply for an e-visa if you meet the requirements.

  • Possess a passport valid for at least 6 months (calculated from the date of entry into Taiwan).
  • Being a Vietnamese citizen and holding a visa from one of the following countries: USA, Canada, UK, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, South Korea, and a Schengen visa.
  • I have never worked as a manual laborer in Taiwan.
  • There are round-trip air tickets or air tickets to a second country other than Taiwan.

2. Visa sticker

If you have never applied for a Taiwan visa before, you need to prepare the documents for a visa sticker application. This type of visa is stamped directly into your passport.

Electronic visa application process

1. Required documents

To apply for an e-visa, you will need the following documents issued by the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, and the Schengen Area:

  • Valid residence permit or permanent residence permit;
  • Visa must be valid (including e-visa, but a printed copy is required).

For residence permits or visas that expired within the last 10 years:

  • If you hold an Australian or New Zealand e-visa and wish to apply for a conditional visa waiver, that e-visa must still be valid.
  • From September 14, 2023, Vietnamese tourists using advanced visas from South Korea and Japan to apply for e-visas to enter Taiwan will not be accepted when registering through the online application system.

- Applicants for e-visas may be individuals who have held a visa or residence permit issued by the Republic of China (Taiwan) within the past 10 years, without violating any laws. However, this condition will not apply to visas issued by the Republic of China (Taiwan) with the visa designation FL (Foreign Worker visa); X (Other visa); P (Quan Hong special project visa); or residence permits stating the purpose of residence as FL (Foreign Worker).

For accepted documents, you must present the originals, not photocopies.

2. E-visa application process

Access the linkhttps://niaspeedy.immigration.gov.tw/nia_southeast/ Choose the appropriate language and follow the instructions to apply for an e-visa.

  • If the registration is successful: The system will display the Approval information. Select the Print button at the bottom of the page to download a PDF file. This is the Certificate of Entry Permit. Please print it in color on A4 paper.
  • In case of application failure: The system will display the message "Please check with the counter of this office". Therefore, you must prepare your application for a traditional visa sticker at the Taipei Office.

3. What documents do I need to bring when entering the country using an e-visa?

  • Passports must be valid for at least six months (calculated from the date of entry into Taiwan).
  • You must provide proof of departure from Taiwan: a return ticket to Taiwan or a ticket to your next destination outside of Taiwan.
  • One of the documents proving you qualify for a Taiwan e-visa is listed in the required documents section above.
  • Taiwan e-visas must still be valid. Please note that e-visa holders must still pass immigration checks before being allowed entry.

According to the latest update from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Vietnamese citizens applying for a Taiwanese passport need to prepare the following:

  • Original passport valid for at least 6 months (with signature), photocopies of visa pages and entry/exit stamps, and a photocopy of the passport.
  • Visa application form (signed, with photo attached). Obtain the form at...https://visawebapp.boca.gov.tw(General Visa), then print it out and submit it along with other relevant documents.
  • Two 4x6 photos with a white background, taken within the last 3-6 months.
  • Passport (valid for at least 6 months) and photocopies of the passport (all pages containing personal information and information about places of entry/exit).
  • Proof of employment (such as employment contract, health insurance card, social insurance card, etc.). Submit photocopies; original documents will be returned after verification. Note: For health insurance and social insurance cards, you can print from photos taken in the VssID app.
  • The leave request form must be stamped and signed by the company manager. If the manager is the director, only the company's business registration certificate is required.
  • Proof of financial means (savings account). Submit a photocopy along with the original for verification; the original will be returned afterwards.
  • Book round-trip tickets and hotel.
  • Taiwan travel itinerary (the more specific the better).
  • Single-entry visa: $50 (results available within 5 business days, excluding Saturdays and Sundays) and $75 for expedited applications. Multiple-entry visa: $100 and $150 for expedited processing.
  • A multiple-entry visa allows more than two entries and exits, including travel to multiple locations outside of Taiwan followed by a return to Taiwan within the visa's validity period.

When submitting your application, please arrange the documents in the correct order. When you arrive to submit your application, please ask for a number as soon as the office opens and request guidance on how to organize your documents to ensure a smooth process.
