Witnessing the heartbreaking scenes of their compatriots in Central Vietnam, sun-tanned international students, elegantly dressed foreign experts, and foreign mothers with young children... did not hesitate to join Vietnamese volunteers in packing packets of instant noodles, bottles of water, and warm jackets. Their skillful hands and radiant smiles created a truly warm atmosphere amidst the rainy and windy days.
Driven by empathy and compassion for those in need, these international friends did not hesitate to set aside their work and personal lives to volunteer for relief efforts.
On September 11th, Nathan Ross Keers (33 years old, British, with a Vietnamese wife) was present in Thai Nguyen, one of the areas severely affected by flooding, to distribute food and essential supplies to the local people along with other organizations and volunteers, as well as local forces.
A Vietnamese son-in-law braved the rain and wind to help people affected by the floods.
Nathan Keers, drenched in the floodwaters, his eyes filled with determination, clutching hot meals in his hands, trudged through the murky water with heavy steps. The image of Nathan, his clothes soaked, his face smeared with mud, but his eyes still shining with warmth, and his smile always bright, touched the hearts of millions.
A smile was always on his face while he was helping the people.
With tears welling up in their eyes, the villagers received each hot meal and kind word from Nathan. They felt the love and compassion. Nathan Keers, from a distant country, quickly integrated into the lives of the Vietnamese people. He proved that love knows no borders. His actions showed that when people work together, we can overcome any difficulty.
He shared on his personal page: "I have been in Vietnam for 6.5 years, I have a beautiful wife and two wonderful boys. Vietnam has given me more than I deserve, this country has become an indispensable part of me. I will do everything I can to support the people in need who are suffering from the floods and storms. If you can donate anything during this time, please do so because the people are in great need."
Two Spanish friends, Violeta and Candela, were stranded in Sa Pa (Lao Cai province) due to heavy rain and flooding. Instead of panicking, the two girls decided to turn their predicament into an opportunity to help the local community. They contributed by cooking and preparing relief meals for people in isolated areas.
Violeta, with her golden hair and bright blue eyes, was always full of energy. Together with her petite best friend Candela, who had a cheerful smile, they transformed the small village kitchen into a cozy place.
The two Spanish friends busied themselves preparing meals for their compatriots affected by the storm.
Two young women received free accommodation and meals, ensuring their safety during the dangerous flood season, thanks to Ms. Tran Thi Huyen, the director of a tourism company in Thach Son (Sa Pa). In return for this kindness, the two Spanish girls enthusiastically participated in cooking and distributing relief meals. They didn't shy away from difficulties or fatigue, working tirelessly from morning till night alongside other volunteers at the makeshift kitchen. Everyone was surprised to see how quickly these two young women, accustomed to city life, adapted to the harsh conditions of the highlands. In the small, cozy kitchen, Violeta and Candela, along with the elderly women, busily prepared the meals. Laughter and cheerful conversation echoed throughout the space.
But the devastation didn't end there. After Typhoon Yagi passed, Ha Long City was left in ruins. Broken branches lay scattered everywhere, corrugated iron roofs were blown away, and piles of rubble from houses created a heartbreaking scene. The rain continued to fall, the wind blew strongly, but dozens of volunteer groups, including many foreigners, did not hesitate to pitch in to help with the recovery efforts. They worked together to cut down trees, clear debris, and re-erect damaged roofs.
Foreigners participating in post-storm cleanup are often tourists or people living and working in Quang Ninh. They join hands in public service with local people with enthusiasm, responsibility, and love. Their smiles while working bring positive energy to many who are tired and anxious.
