After Typhoon Yagi passed, its remnants arrived, bringing heavy rains that caused widespread flash floods and landslides. Houses were submerged, roads were cut off, and fields were inundated. The images of people in northern Vietnam struggling against the harsh natural conditions were heartbreaking. Every house swept away, every person missing, represents an unspeakable tragedy.
Actual measurements taken at 5 PM on September 10th on the Thao River in Yen Bai showed a water level of 35.73m, 1.31m higher than the historical flood level of 1968, and also the highest historical flood level since monitoring data began in this area. On other rivers, floods continued to rise and maintained very high water levels throughout the day and night, with many rivers exceeding alarm level 3 yesterday afternoon, including the Lo, Thuong, Cau, Day, and Hoang Long rivers.
A soldier's command from the heart.
When floodwaters rise, sweeping away houses and farmlands, people's lives hang in the balance. Amidst the vast expanse of water, small rescue boats brave the raging waves, bringing trapped residents to safety. The image of firefighters, police officers, and local officials, covered in mud and dirt, bravely battling the natural disaster, has become a symbol of sacrifice and courage. Thanks to them, countless lives have been saved, and countless families have been reunited.
When the water rises, so too do people's hearts.
"Don't worry, the soldiers are here...”This was a heartwarming moment for the flood victims. Images of police officers and soldiers rowing boats to each house, climbing walls to help people, especially the elderly and children, to safety, becoming a reliable support for them during their time of fear, deeply moved the online community. These dangerous yet compassionate moments spread across social media, receiving thousands of shares and touching comments.
"Don't worry, the soldiers have arrived..."
In Thai Nguyen city (Thai Nguyen province), heavy rain caused the Cau River to rise, submerging many residential areas and causing widespread flooding. Hundreds of police and military personnel braved the rain, traveling by boat to rescue residents trapped in the flooded areas.
The more difficult the circumstances, the stronger the bond between the military and the people, and the sense of responsibility towards the people shown by the officers and soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army, is further demonstrated with the spirit:Vì nhân dân quên mình, vì nhân dân hy sinh". Hình ảnh những người lính "quân hàm xanh" cùng các lực lượng chức năng khác không quản nguy hiểm, ngày đêm sát cánh cùng người dân khắc phục hậu quả mưa lũ tô đẹp thêm hình ảnh người lính Cụ Hồ, củng cố tình đoàn kết quân - dân gắn bó máu thịt.
"Help with whatever you can."
Like in any other conflict, when natural disasters struck, the Vietnamese people once again demonstrated the power of solidarity. Trucks carrying relief supplies lined up, navigating flooded roads and heading into the heart of the storm. The small hands of schoolchildren shared their meals with those in greater need.
Boxes of instant noodles and packets of biscuits become a noble gesture during the flood season.
On the Vietnam Fatherland Front's fanpage (https://www.facebook.com/mttqvietnam), immediately after posting information about receiving donations for people in the northern provinces and cities affected by floods, thousands of comments and shares were sent to the people in the affected areas. These acts of kindness called on every Vietnamese person to unite and support their compatriots in need.
Warmth and solidarity among compatriots nationwide.
According to preliminary statistics from the Central Relief Committee, in less than 10 minutes after officially opening for donations, the bank accounts of the Central Relief Committee - Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front - received more than 1,000 transfer messages with a total donation amount of nearly 2 billion VND.
Many people, organizations, and businesses in the central provinces are actively responding to the fundraising campaign to support their compatriots in the disaster-stricken northern regions through concrete actions.
Essential supplies were loaded onto large trucks and transported to people in the North.
In Thanh Hoa province, residents of Nong Cong district joined hands to donate funds and contribute 700 sticky rice cakes (banh chung), hundreds of boxes of instant noodles, and milk to flood victims in the North. They shared that after reading about the damage caused by the remnants of Typhoon No. 3 in the northern provinces, people in Ngoc Cham village launched a fundraising campaign with the spirit of "mutual support and compassion."
Everyone volunteered and was ready to fight for the North.
The spirit of mutual support and compassion in our country is clearly demonstrated.
People in Lang Son also called for donations to support flood victims in various localities within the province. Through information on social media, many essential supplies have been gathered for transport to the flooded areas. Trucks loaded with "zero-cost" aid, overflowing with the heartfelt generosity of the people of Lang Son, are heading into the flooded areas despite the stormy weather. This support and sharing from kind-hearted individuals will be a great motivation, empowering people to safely cope with the floods, overcome difficulties, quickly stabilize their lives, and restore production.
These "zero-cost" trucks are overflowing with love.
Over the past few days, many people and volunteer clubs in Da Nang City have gathered to cook banh chung and banh tet (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes) to transport to the North, sending love to those in need in flood-affected areas. In Son Tra district, the atmosphere of wrapping banh chung on An Hai Dong 1 street was bustling. Without being told, everyone had a task: some prepared banana leaves, others washed sticky rice, and then together they wrapped and cooked banh chung throughout the night.
Natural disasters are unavoidable. Every country in the world, no matter how rich or civilized, faces the challenge of natural disasters. But the solidarity among compatriots in such difficult times is a tremendous source of spiritual strength, encouraging, comforting, and connecting people.
