The Hanoi People's Committee has officially issued a plan to organize a grand-scale fireworks display to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, covering all districts, towns, and communes. Accordingly, the capital city will maintain 33 firing points with a total of 34 fireworks displays, promising a spectacular light show at the moment of the New Year's transition. This is not only a traditional cultural activity but also a focal point attracting tourists, contributing to a joyful and exciting atmosphere for the people of Hanoi before the new spring.
Accordingly, this year's New Year's Eve celebration in Hanoi will feature 11 high-altitude fireworks displays combined with low-altitude and pyrotechnic displays. Each high-altitude display will involve a massive investment, with 700 high-altitude fireworks, 60 low-altitude fireworks displays, and 30 pyrotechnic displays, along with various flower fountains. This well-planned investment aims to create multi-layered, dazzling visual effects in the Hanoi sky at 00:00 on February 17, 2026 (the eve of the Lunar New Year of the Horse).
With 34 fireworks displays simultaneously launched on New Year's Eve 2026 (Year of the Horse), Hanoi will not only offer a spectacular visual feast but also provide a strong boost to the city's tourism and service industries.
Besides the high-altitude fireworks displays, Hanoi also deployed 23 low-altitude fireworks sites spread across suburban areas and major parks. Each low-altitude site will utilize 120 fireworks launchers, ensuring that all residents, whether in the city center or suburbs, can admire the spectacular light shows close to their homes. The total estimated cost for this year's Lunar New Year fireworks campaign is nearly 40 billion VND. Notably, the funding comes not only from the state budget but also from significant contributions from social sources, such as the sites at Vinhomes Riverside urban area and Phung Khoang Park.
This year, the city prioritizes the application of modern light show technology combined with traditional fireworks to serve the needs of the people and tourists from all over.
Regarding location allocation, Hoan Kiem Lake continues to be the "heart" of the festival with two high-altitude fireworks displays located in front of the Hanoi Moi Newspaper headquarters and the Hanoi Post Office. To ensure the best effect for the water-based fireworks displays, Hoan Kiem, Tay Ho, and Hai Ba Trung wards have been tasked with coordinating closely in arranging the site and technical equipment at West Lake and Thong Nhat Park. In addition, other "hot spots" for viewing high-altitude fireworks such as the F1 racetrack (Nam Tu Liem), Lac Long Quan Flower Garden (Tay Ho), and Son Tay Ancient Citadel have also prepared security and technical plans to serve tens of thousands of people flocking to visit.
This year, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports has been tasked with leading and guiding localities in researching and applying new, modern light show technologies. This could include combining laser lights or drone lights (flycam displays) alongside traditional fireworks to create a visual breakthrough. At the fireworks display locations, cultural and artistic performances and promotional activities will also be held throughout the period leading up to New Year's Eve, creating a series of attractive cultural events to stimulate tourism in the capital during the 2026 Lunar New Year.
All 33 fireworks display locations in Hanoi were absolutely secure, safe, and fire-resistant, with a total implementation cost of nearly 40 billion VND.
In addition, at 23 low-altitude firing locations, the list of firing points has been completed, covering inner-city districts such as Giang Vo (Ba Dinh), Dong Da Lake, Den Lu Lake (Hoang Mai) to suburban districts such as Soc Son, My Duc, and Dan Phuong. Dispersing the firing points at stadiums and ecological parks helps reduce traffic congestion in the Hoan Kiem heritage core area, while also making it easier for tourists staying in the western and southern parts of the city to watch the fireworks.
Safety and security are paramount in this plan. The City People's Committee requires all units to coordinate closely, ensuring absolute safety for personnel, equipment, and fire prevention at all 34 locations. With a spectacular 15-minute display from 00:00 to 00:15, the New Year's Eve fireworks display of the Year of the Horse is not only a ritual to welcome the new year but also a symbol of prosperity and the aspiration for progress of Hanoi in 2026.
