Delta Airlines, one of the major airlines, has filed a lawsuit against cybersecurity company CrowdStrike in a Georgia state court. The lawsuit comes after a serious software incident in July caused numerous flight cancellations and severely impacted global civil aviation operations.

The incident disrupted travel plans for 1.3 million Delta Airlines passengers, costing the airline more than $500 million. Delta Airlines' lawsuit, filed in Fulton County Superior Court, called CrowdStrike's faulty software update a "catastrophe"; the company allegedly "delivered untested and faulty updates to customers, causing more than 8.5 million Microsoft Windows computers worldwide to crash."

Delta Airlines stated that, as part of its IT infrastructure plan, it has invested billions of dollars in licensing and building some of the best technology solutions in the aviation industry. CrowdStrike questioned why Delta Airlines was more heavily impacted than other airlines and argued that the company bears only minimal responsibility, a claim Delta denies.

Adam Meyers, Senior Vice President at CrowdStrike, said the company released a content configuration update for its Falcon Sensor security software that led to system incidents worldwide. “We are deeply sorry this happened and we are determined to prevent this from happening again,” Meyers said.
