The world continues to witness numerous incidents of assault against women and children on commercial flights. In the United States, crimes on airplanes fall under the jurisdiction of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). In a report published in April aimed at raising awareness about sexual assaults on airplanes, the FBI stated that in 2023 alone, they investigated 96 cases of sexual assault on aircraft.

The FBI report states: "Sexual assault on airplanes—often in the form of unwanted touching—is a felony that can result in jail time for the perpetrator. Typically, men are the perpetrators, while women and unaccompanied minors are the victims."
