The Vice President of the Co To Tourism Association said that currently, the island district is experiencing increasing rain and strong winds, with Typhoon No. 3 causing large waves and fierce storms.
In response to Super Typhoon No. 3 (Yagi), the Co To District Tourism Association has notified tourism businesses within the association to urgently relocate facilities and equipment at beaches and tourist spots to safe locations to minimize damage. At the same time, they are to inspect, reinforce buildings, and secure assets at tourism establishments.
The storm has caused extensive damage on Co To Island.
In a spirit of mutual support and compassion, many hotels on Co To Island proactively opened their doors to welcome people free of charge, providing them with safe shelter when Typhoon No. 3 made landfall. This action not only helped protect people's lives and property but also contributed to warming the hearts of the community.
In addition to requisitioning all hotels on the island, Co To district has developed and issued a plan to requisition schools and sturdy government buildings to serve as temporary shelters for people during the storm, ensuring food, supplies, and other living conditions for those seeking refuge.
Following the directives of Quang Ninh province and Co To district, the local authorities have prepared manpower, supplies, and equipment to meet the requirements of storm prevention and control according to the "four on-the-spot" principle, given the increasingly intense storm.
Local authorities have implemented various measures to prevent the spread.
Earlier that evening, the People's Committee of Co To District issued a curfew order throughout the entire island district. The curfew applies to people and vehicles (excluding law enforcement personnel performing their duties). The curfew is in effect from 10 PM on September 6th to 9 PM on September 7th.
Given the complex developments of Typhoon No. 3, Co To district has proactively implemented comprehensive response measures. Regular reviews and inspections of high-risk areas are being conducted. Authorities and local residents have prepared all necessary plans to deal with emergency situations.
At 7 PM on September 6th, the center of Typhoon No. 3 was located at approximately 20.1 degrees North latitude and 110.3 degrees East longitude, off the northern coast of Hainan Island (China), about 360 km east-southeast of Quang Ninh province. The strongest winds near the center of the typhoon reached level 15 (167-183 km/h), with gusts exceeding level 17, moving west-northwest at a speed of 15-20 km/h.
In the northwestern part of the North East Sea region on the night of September 6th, strong winds of force 8-10 were still present, with winds near the storm's center reaching force 11-13, gusting to force 16; the sea was extremely rough. In the Gulf of Tonkin (including Bach Long Vy and Co To islands), waves were 3.0 - 5.0 m high, reaching 6.0 - 8.0 m near the storm's center. From midnight on September 6th to early morning on September 7th, coastal waters from Quang Ninh to Thanh Hoa experienced waves of 2.0 - 3.0 m, later increasing to 2.0 - 4.0 m, reaching 3.0 - 5.0 m near the storm's center.
